Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey debuted in the USA last night on Fox networks across the country at 9PM EDT/PDT. If you missed it, it should be repeated some time during the week. The remainder of the series will air on Fox with the National Geographic Channel rebroadcasting the episodes the next day with extra content.

For European viewers, the show arrives on the National Geographic Channel (and HD version) on Sunday, March 16th at 7PM. The show is repeated several times over the following hours in case that time doesn’t suit (or you forget to record it!)

The show is a re-imagining of Carl Sagan’s seminal Cosmos: A Personal Voyage which was produced by PBS, some 30+ years ago in 1981. Hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, the executive producers are Seth MacFarlane (yes, that one!) and Ann Druyan, Sagan’s widow. I previewed it’s production back in July 2013.

How the new series came into being, despite the reluctance of TV networks to fund it, is detailed here.

Since I haven’t yet seen the first episode, I can’t review it, but here’s a couple of independent reviews of last night’s broadcast:

Post-Show Hangout

After the show is broadcast, you can tune in to the Cosmos Rewind Google Hangout with Astronomy and Discover magazine staff members. We will answer your cosmic questions, expand on the episode, and blow your mind even further.

The first of the Celestron-sponsored Hangouts will happen March 10 at 3 p.m. EDT, and new ones will occur each Tuesday at 3 p.m. EDT until the season ends.

What are your opinions of the show?
