Where Are NASA’s Pioneering Astronauts Now?
The death of Neil Armstrong last weekend got me to thinking about a “Where Are They Now?” exercise for NASA’s original astronaut corps.
Buzz Aldrin (Apollo 11) is probably the most vocal of that group and has kept himself in the public eye (he even had a small part in Transformers 3!) and Gene Cernan has been outspoken about NASA losing focus on manned spaceflight, so he’s still somewhat in the public eye.
While some of these men were pioneers in the field of manned spaceflight, putting their lives on the line in the name of exploration, the names of some are all but forgotten now or worse, not even known to the current generation.
So what happened to all the other astronauts from the 1960s?
