Partial Lunar Eclipse 07-Aug-2017

There’s a partial Lunar Eclipse happening today but it will be very difficult to see as it happens during daylight hours in Western Europe. Only a very small part of the Moon’s disk will pass through the Umbra (the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow).

The best places to see, at least some parts of the partial eclipse: Much of Europe, Much of Asia, Australia, Africa, East in South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Antarctica.

It is not visible from the Americas.

The times in the image above (created with LunarPhase Pro) are in GMT (UT) for Dublin, Ireland. They show that the eclipse maximum is not visible in Ireland or the UK as the Moon is still below the horizon. Only the last part of the Penumbral eclipse will be potentially visible from those countries, though Penumbral shadows are hard to see, even during the night.
