Planning for the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from
the Gemini partnership at the end of 2012, the Gemini Observatory has worked
with the Gemini Board to develop a transition plan for operations and
maintenance with a reduced budget in the future. The plan is now available at the AURA website

Gemini is now accepting proposals for observing time in Semester 2011A. The proposal deadline is September 30, 2010. A new version of the Phase I Tool (PIT) has been released to support proposal submissions.

As announced previously, the Gemini software tools are being updated to use the currently supported version of Java (Java 6). The Phase I Tool (PIT) will use Java 6 starting with the 2011A version to be released on September 1, 2010. This change will be transparent to most users. However, the new PIT will not run on PowerPC Macintosh computers since Apple does not provide Java 6 for these machines. read more

The Gemini Observatory observing database will be offline on Tuesday June 8 while upgrades are performed in preparation for the start of the 2010B semester. Affected applications include the Observing Tool (OT) and the web report forms. The new 2010B OT should be available on Wednesday June 9 and will be required for all subsequent fetch/store operations. Please check this site for further announcements.
