Call for White Papers to define the Gemini InfraRed-Optical Spectrometer (GIROS)

Gemini Observatory is embarked on a new round of instrumentation development, with an emphasis on creating as competitive as possible an instrument suite within the technical limitations of the telescopes and fiscal constraint of projected budgets. The Gemini High-resolution Optical Spectrograph (GHOS; www.gemini.edu/node/11698) and Gemini Remote Access to CFHT ESPaDOnS Spectrograph (GRACES; www.gemini.edu/node/11355) are the first instruments under consideration in this new round.

New version of the Gemini IRAF package released (v1.11)

30 Dec 2011 at 3:38pm  A new version of the Gemini IRAF package (v1.11) has been released. All users are encouraged to upgrade to v1.11 of the Gemini IRAF package. Please see the Gemini Data Processing Software page for more information.

Updated 2012A OT available

15 Dec 2011 at 1:19pm  An updated version of the 2012A OT (2012A.1.1.2) is available for download or via the OT update feature. The update is optional but hightly recommended since it contains important bug fixes.

Observing databases offline November 30

2 Dec 2011 at 1:17pm  The Gemini Observatory observing databases will be offline for several hours on Wednesday November 30 while we perform quarterly software updates. Affected applications include the Observing Tool (OT) and the web report forms. The new 2012A OT should be available on Thursday December 1 and will be required for all subsequent fetch/store operations. Please check this site for further announcements.

Observing databases online and 2012A OT available

The Gemini observing databases are back online after the quarterly software update, and the latest version of the Gemini Observing Tool (2012A.1.1.1) is now available for download or via updating an existing installation of the OT. This update is required to communicate with the observing databases.

Note that a small update will be released next week, so those with site-wide installations may wish to wait until then to update to the 2012A version.

2012A Call for proposals announced

Gemini is now accepting proposals for observing time in Semester 2012A. The proposal deadline is September 30, 2011. A new version of the Phase I Tool (PIT) has been released to support proposal submissions.
