The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress : Songwriter Challenge
thelongholidays.bandcamp.com Download this song and others for free! This is a songwriter challenge from Eden Hain, subject: THE MOON! I know a lot of songwriters on youtube like to play songs about popular books like Harry Potter, and the Hunger Games, but what about all of the classic 1960's Sci-Fi sitting on the shelves of used book stores? This one is based roughly on Robert Heinlein's "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress", originally titled "The Brass Cannon". This song's challenger is a great uke player and songwriter, Eden youtube.com I wrote the lyrics on the day of the SOPA wikipedia blackout, so I used a great article on HowStuffWorks to get some facts straight. science.howstuffworks.com Do you want to be my next challenger. You can try, but I'm taking a break to fight it out in Spin Tunes #4. However, I may be eliminated by the time you see this video. Comment or email. thelongholidays@gmail.com Check out the whole band! We play plenty of epic shows around Los Angeles. thelongholidays.bandcamp.com for FREE download of the Through Two Lenses EP, and maybe more... http for shows, info, links, and lynx twitter.com is where I make fun of my keyboard player, the only band member not on twitter. facebook.com is where we bathe in the money from our recent IPO. Lyrics: (Yum day day, Yum day day. Yum day day, Yum day day. Oh.) Robot: Welcome to Moon colony. Our chief operations are science, and moon agriculture. We hope you enjoy your stay, and that you will consider ...

Lyrics: [Neil deGrasse Tyson] The act of moving onward means we pass these sign posts One of them was first leaving earth The next one is hanging out on the moon What's next? The planets Onward to the edge We're moving onward to the edge Here we are together This fragile little world [Brian Cox] This is our sun Just another star in a sea of stars The heart of the solar system Just another star in a sea of stars Mercury is the closest planet This tortured piece of rock has been stripped naked [Tyson] The moon has a sky It has a horizon It's another world It's got earth in the sky Just the way we have the moon in the sky (refrain) We're not the only world to think about Worlds unnumbered We're not the only world to think about Think about worlds unnumbered [Carolyn Porco] There is a powerful recognition That stirs within us When we see our own little blue ocean planet In the skies of other ...

Kayelle Allen's Immortals - A History
Beginning in the year 4850 (Terran), humanity's actions launched The Great Dark Ages of Man. The immortals they had created were safely imprisoned across the galaxy, and other genetic creations left behind were purged from man's presence. For ten thousand years, man put the past behind him. But now, space beckons. The galaxy awaits exploration -- again. The immortals are still out there, waiting a chance to repay human "kindness" of the past...

Newt in Space: Gingrich Proposes Moon Colony for 2021

27 Jan 2012 at 5:46pm
Newt in Space: Gingrich Proposes Moon Colony for 2021
BY ALLIE SPILLYARDS Remember the Jetsons? Well according to GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich -- life in space may not be as far off and futuristic as TV once made it seem. "The program I envision would probably end up being 90 percent private sector. ((FLASH)) But I'll tell you. I don't want to be the country that having gotten to the moon first, turned around and said, 'it doesn't really matter. Let the Chinese dominate space. What do we care?'" (VIDEO SOURCE: CNN) Now just a day after the last Florida GOP debate where he made those statements, news headlines ranging from "Space Cadet Gingrich" to "Fly Me to the Moon" show most in the media are writing off Gingrich's idea as little more than ridiculous. CNN's David Frum takes a look. (SOURCE: WASHINGTON POST AND LA TIMES) "Then he should've dismissed the moon colony question with a joke and moved on. Instead, he allowed that conversation to take over. He could not control himself in the face of something he should've controlled himself in." TIME's Jeffrey Kluger suggests -- this is just one in a series of over-the-top statements from the former Speaker of the House. "...Gingrich often doesn't seem to get that merely being willing to say any damn thing is not the same as being able to do any damn thing, especially when the challenges you're taking on don't involve just political rivals and government policy, but the hard laws of engineering and physics..." Although plenty of snark and mockery is floating through ...

John F. Kennedy's Visionary Speech regarding Space Exploration
Video of the National Aeronautic Space Administration's (NASA) coverage of President John F. Kennedy's address at Rice University, Houston, Texas, concerning the nation's efforts in space exploration. In his speech the President discusses the necessity for the United States to become an international leader in space exploration and famously states, "We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard."
